At 16, George began learning the cobbler trade after school with his father. He was an apprentice for 10 years before he became the owner in 1992. George obtained a degree in bookkeeping and accounting from Santa Rosa Junior College. He is married to his wife, Eloisa Ramos, and has four kids: Vanessa, Diego, Oscar, and Sonia.

Since he was a child, he has always enjoyed working with his hands and was always trying to figure out ways to fix things. As a hobby, he enjoys playing the guitar and singing. He is also a Trekkie (Star-Trek fan) and Star Wars fan. You can find the starships from these shows hung throughout the shop’s ceiling.

49+ Years of History

Ramos Shoe Repair is a 3 generation business first opened in Healdsburg in 1974 by his father. George’s grandfather was a shoemaker in the early 1900s in Mexico who hand-made each shoe. He taught his son, Demetrio, when he was 6 years old. Demetrio then taught his own son, George, when he was in high school until George took over the business in 1992. George has also taught his daughter some of the cobbler trade.
